Simultaneous games, Masters Tournament, Amateur Tournament, cinema and conferences make up this first Chess Festival that is celebrated on the occasion of the VIII Centenary of the University of Salamanca.
The City Council of Salamanca has presented to the media the Chess Festival VIII Centenario, with the assistance of the sports councilor, Enrique Sánchez Guijo, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Policy and Social Participation, Enrique Cabero, the provincial director of sports of the Board, Alfonso Lahuerta, and The Master of the International Chess Federation, Amador González de la Nava.
The Festival is committed to equality in sports from the very organization of the Masters Tournament, in which 4 men and 4 women participate, who will play a league for a round. Great figures of the world chess that will measure their forces in the games that are going to take place in the Palace of Figueroa, Casino de Salamanca, and in the Aula Salinas of the historic building of the University.
The importance of celebrating this Chess Festival in Salamanca, whose University was the cradle of the rules of modern chess, was manifested. Wills were also expressed for this to be the 1st Festival, which would give continuity to these meetings in the coming years.
